New Research Reveals Disease-Fighting Powers of Blueberry Juice

A pilot study published in the Journal of Cancer Prevention found that blueberry juice has anti-oxidative and anti-cancerous effects, similar to that of vitamin C.  Blueberries’ antioxidant properties are well-established in the scientific literature, but little is known about how blueberry antioxidants actually work in the body. This study took a closer look at the process.

The study, which consisted of 10 healthy college women in South Korea, split subjects into two groups. The first group drank one cup of blueberry juice daily, while the other group took a 1-gram tablet of vitamin C daily.  Researchers found that both blueberry juice and vitamin C possessed anti-cancer effects, but they acted in different ways. Vitamin C showed a potential reduction in cell damage, while blueberry juice had a positive effect on DNA damage.

So what’s the bottom line? When it comes to cancer protection, a daily glass of blueberry juice can have the same effect as taking 1000 milligrams of vitamin C. With a variety of delicious ways to get your dose of vitamin C, why not start with 100% juice?
